Staying local and continuing our pursuit of canned offerings to try on the course, I decided to give Finch Beer Co. a try with their summer sessional ale. As stated here before, when playing through a round, you want something that is both easily handled and capable of fitting into our Useful Shots koozies. Ideally, searching for something crisp, refreshing, and somewhat light so as not to be over-served by the end of the round.
This time a round I was drawn to the fun label from Finch called Sungasm. Finch Beer Co., a brewery on the North side of Chicago, typically offering pint sized canned offerings, has released a summer sessional in the 12 oz. variety. Perhaps a little late to the game with this review, since summer is now over, this Belgian style pale ale is available in 6-pack cans in local stores and larger retailers such as Target, where I usually pick up my weekly flavor. Sungasm, appropriately named for summer sun consumption, carries hints of sweet hops, but not overly citrus as some other craft options. The overall finish is very flavorful, but light enough to take a bigger swig.
At 4.5% ABV, you can definitely handle more than a couple on the round. To be fair, I did not actually take this beer out on the course, as it didn’t make it past an early evening get together, but three beers in I quickly became a fan. I don’t often make the same purchase twice, as I like to spread the love, but knowing it was near the end of the season, I was glad to find the last 6-pack at the store during my last trip. I would definitely recommend this for the course, and would try it on my next outing, but know it won’t last that long in my fridge. Like our previous review, the fact that this beer comes in cans is definitely a plus for course consumption, keep an eye out for this one if you are in the area.
I am not as familiar with Finch’s other offerings, but will continue to look into their yearly offerings.
