Well…not a good showing for me this week (my picks). Neither lineup ended up in the money. And one performed so poorly, I feel like I should have gotten a little something just for getting so close to last place.
My first lineup (Spieth, Grace, Oosthuizen, Leishman, Lee, and Knost) was about as bad as it gets. Three guys missed the cut, with Danny Lee following up his impressive Scottish Open performance with a 78 and a 77, never even threatening to make the cut. Danny Lee is one of those guys for me who seems to play well when I don’t pick him, but really poorly when I do. Patrick Reed is like that too…he had a decent week finishing 12th at -1, but of course, I didn’t pick him. Even with the three guys who made the cut, none did anything notable, with Spieth finishing the highest at +2 (30th place). This lineup was dead by the time I woke up on Thursday morning.
At least for the second lineup (McIlroy, Garcia, McDowell, Molinari, Cabrera-Bello, and Rahm), I got some entertainment value in return. All six guys made the cut, although I greatly benefited by the late Friday drop in the cut line to +4. Sergio and McIlroy were the only guys who delivered over the weekend and finished in the top 10. And McIlroy broke a club…you should get extra points for this.
For tracking purposes, since everyone plays at different stakes, I will track this by just counting each lineup as 1, with the payout equaling a multiple of the entry fee. For this week, its easy, since I didn’t finish in the money at all.
