On a recent trip to Nordstrom Rack, while perusing their limited selection of golf knit polos, I stumbled across a simple, solid grey Travis Mathew polo sporting a red Prestige 777 tag hanging on the collar. The tag noted wrinkle-resistant, lightweight 4-way stretch fabric, something typically associated with the major players on tour like Nike, Under Armour and Adidas.
I have purchased Travis Mathew golf polos in the past, but they were typically all or mostly cotton, and highly prone to shrinking. Also the brand’s incessant use of striped chest patterns had quickly tired on me, and I began associating the brand as the uniform for dad-bodied bros, rather than practical course wear.
This Prestige 777 line offering, however, felt durable, and certainly provided a stretch that I would expect in a performance material. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that their medium size was cut a little larger, but still provided a trim fit. I often struggle with polos from other brands deciding between a medium or large, I am 5’-9” 175 by the way. With previous offerings from Travis Mathew being mostly cotton, I needed a large to account for shrinking, but I can report that this medium has held its shape through the first round of play and first wash.
Happy with the results, I looked into the Prestige line a little further on the Travis Mathew website, and found that they created a 7, 77, and 777 moniker for their clothing to help you decide what level of performance you are looking for in their material. The Prestige 7 line being mostly cottons, casual wears, and the 77-777 lines increasing the performance aspects of the materials. Each line offers various styles of t-shirts, polos, and shorts.
After doing some online discount searching, I have been able to purchase a couple additional tops. Sure, one of them does have chest stripes, but I am happy with the revamped materials.
